Email Automation Sequences That Nurture Leads for 90 Days
The biggest mistake in email marketing is stopping the nurture too early. Here is how to build a 90-day sequence that keeps leads warm until they are ready to buy.

Why Most Nurture Sequences Are Too Short
The typical email nurture sequence is 5–7 emails over 2 weeks. This makes sense intuitively — you do not want to overwhelm new subscribers. But it misses a critical insight: B2B buying decisions take 3–12 months, not 2 weeks.
A 2-week nurture sequence ends before most prospects are ready to buy. A 90-day sequence is still running when the prospect's budget opens up, their current vendor disappoints them, or their situation reaches a breaking point.
The 90-Day Nurture Architecture
Week 1–2: The Welcome Phase (5 emails) Deliver on your lead magnet promise. Share your best content. Tell your story. Set expectations. Make the relationship feel warm before you say anything about your services.
Week 3–4: The Education Phase (4 emails) Teach your core framework. Share your most important perspective on the reader's problem. Build expertise credibility through teaching, not credentials.
Week 5–8: The Case Study Phase (4 emails) Share specific client stories. Different industries, different situations, different outcomes. Let prospects self-identify with the client who is most like them.
Week 9–12: The Consideration Phase (3 emails) Address the most common objections: timeline, budget, ROI, why now. Make the case without the pitch. Ask whether any of these objections resonate.
Month 3 onwards: The Maintenance Phase (1 email/week) Your regular newsletter. Stay present, stay valuable, stay top of mind. Add value every week until the prospect is ready.
The Trigger System
Not every subscriber needs the full 90-day sequence. Build triggers: if a subscriber clicks a pricing-related link in any email, add them to a more direct sales track. If they book a call, exit the sequence. If they click on a case study, send a follow-up case study.
The 90-day structure is the default. Behavior-based triggers create shortcuts for prospects who are ready faster.
