!The Challenge

A news outlet for western Nepal was publishing manually to WordPress, spending 4+ hours/day on formatting and distribution. No SEO architecture, poor mobile experience, no admin CMS for the editorial team.

The Strategy

Full Next.js platform with Supabase CMS. Category-based programmatic routes for every news section. Mobile-responsive with fast ISR-cached pages. Admin panel for the editorial team to publish without code. Newsletter integration for reader retention.

The Results

Published 50+ article pages on launch. Admin publishing time cut from 4 hours to 45 minutes per day. Page load time under 1 second on mobile. Team of 3 now managing the full platform without any developer dependency.

The Challenge

TheWestNepal.live covers news from the Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces — an underserved region with no dedicated digital news outlet. The team were skilled journalists but technical non-starters. WordPress was slowing them down: complex templates, plugin conflicts, and no structured content pipeline.

The goal: a modern, fast news platform the editorial team could own completely.

The Solution

Content Architecture

Supabase as the content store with articles table, category taxonomy, author profiles, and tags. Dynamic routes at /news/[category]/[slug] with generateStaticParams for full SSG of all known paths.

Editorial Admin Panel

Custom admin CMS with Supabase auth. Three roles: admin, editor, contributor. Rich text editor with image upload to Supabase Storage. Draft → review → publish workflow. Schedule publishing via published_at field.

Performance

ISR with 5-minute revalidation. Images served via Next.js Image component with automatic WebP conversion. Core Web Vitals: LCP < 1.2s, CLS: 0.

SEO

Programmatic metadata per article. Category hub pages with article grids. Sitemap.xml regenerated on every build. Schema markup (NewsArticle, BreadcrumbList) on every page.

The Results

The platform launched with 50 articles imported from WordPress. The editorial team picked up the admin panel within a day. Publishing speed went from 4 hours (WordPress formatting + plugin fights) to 45 minutes end-to-end.

Traffic is growing from organic search — the category pages are indexing and beginning to rank for regional news terms in Nepali and English.
